It's currently possible for window size/position updates to hang, as the
underlying IPCs are synchronous. This updates the WebDriver endpoint to
be async, to unblock the WebContent process while the update is ongoing.
The UI process is now responsible for informing WebContent when the
update is complete.
Similar to commit c2cf65adac, we should
avoid spinning the event loop from the WebContent-side of the WebDriver
connection. This can result in deadlocks if another component in LibWeb
also spins the event loop.
The AO to await navigations has two event loop spinners - waiting for
the navigation to complete and for the document to reach the target
readiness state. We now use NavigationObserver and DocumentObserver to
be notified when these conditions are met. And we use the same async IPC
mechanism as script execution to notify the WebDriver process when all
conditions are met (or timed out).
This is strictly nicer than passing them around as i32 everywhere,
and by switching to i64 as the underlying type, ID allocation becomes as
simple as incrementing an integer.
We've added a few JS::Handle members to this class over time. Let's
avoid creating a new GC root for each of these, and explicitly add a
visitation method.
Cookies have a minimum expiry resolution of 1 second. So to test cookie
expiration, the test had to idle for at least a second, which is quite a
noticeable delay now that LibWeb tests are parallelized.
Instead, we can add an internal API to expire cookies with a time offset
to avoid this idle delay.
This reverts commit 556a0936dd.
This was causing a large slow down in WPT, and a crash on macOS during
session shutdown when running WebDriver manually.
Implements https://github.com/whatwg/html/pull/10007 which basically
moves style, layout and painting from HTML processing task into HTML
task with "rendering" source.
The biggest difference is that now we no longer schedule HTML event loop
processing whenever we might need a repaint, but instead queue a global
rendering task 60 times per second that will check if any documents
need a style/layout/paint update.
That is a great simplification of our repaint scheduling model. Before
we had:
- Optional timer that schedules animation updates 60 hz
- Optional timer that schedules rAF updates
- PaintWhenReady state to schedule a paint if navigable doesn't have a
rendering opportunity on the last event loop iteration
Now all that is gone and replaced with a single timer that drives
repainting at 60 hz and we don't have to worry about excessive repaints.
In the future, hard-coded 60 hz refresh interval could be replaced with
CADisplayLink on macOS and similar API on linux to drive repainting in
synchronization with display's refresh rate.
For example, in the following abbreviated test HTML:

<script>println("whf")</script>
We would have to craft the expectation file to include the "some text"
segment, usually with some leading whitespace. This is a bit annoying,
and makes it difficult to manually craft expectation files.
So instead of comparing the expectation against the entire DOM inner
text, we now send the inner text of just the <pre> element containing
the test output when we invoke `internals.signalTextTestIsDone`.
You can now build with STYLE_INVALIDATION_DEBUG and get a debug stream
of reasons why style invalidations are happening and where.
I've rewritten this code many times, so instead of throwing it away once
again, I figured we should at least have it behind a flag.
Choosing options from the `<select>` will load and display that style
sheet's source text, with some checks to make sure that the text that
just loaded is the one we currently want.
The UI is a little goofy when scrolling, as it uses `position: sticky`
which we don't implement yet. But that's just more motivation to
implement it! :^)
This will be used by the inspector, for showing style sheet contents.
Identifying a specific style sheet is a bit tricky. Depending on where
it came from, a style sheet may have a URL, it might be associated with
a DOM element, both, or neither. This varied information is wrapped in
a new StyleSheetIdentifier struct.
When working on the Inspector's HTML, it's often kind of tricky to debug
when an element is styled / positioned incorrectly. We don't have a way
to inspect the Inspector itself.
This adds a button to the Inspector to export its HTML/CSS/JS contents
to the downloads directory. This allows for more easily testing changes,
especially by opening the exported HTML in another browser's dev tools.
We will ultimately likely remove this button (or make it hidden) by the
time we are production-ready. But it's quite useful for now.
We don't want to set the intrinsic Console object's client to non-top-
level clients, created for e.g. subframes. We also want to make sure the
Console client is updated if the top-level document has changed.
We explicitly stopped visting the map of documents to console clients in
commit 44659f2f2a to avoid keeping the
document alive. However, if nothing else visits the console clients, we
may set the top-level console client to a client that has been garbage
collected.
So instead of storing this map, just store the console client on the
document itself. This will allow the document to visit its client.
We don't want to set the intrinsic Console object's client to non-top-
level clients, created for e.g. SVG elements or subframes. We also want
to make sure the Console client is updated if the top-level document has
changed.
Skia painter is visibly faster than LibGfx painter and has more complete
CSS transforms support. With this change:
- On Linux, it will try to use Vulkan-backend with fallback to
CPU-backend
- On macOS it will try to use Metal-backend with fallback to
CPU-backend
- headless-browser always runs with CPU-backend in layout mode
Enforce the use of the CPU backend in test mode to ensure that ref-tests
produce consistent results across different computers, as this
consistency cannot be achieved with the GPU backend.
GPU painter that uses AccelGfx is slower and way less complete compared
to both default Gfx::Painter and Skia painter. It does not make much
sense to keep it, considering Skia painter already uses Metal backend on
macOS by default and there is an option to enable GPU-accelerated
backend on linux.
This call is used to inform the chrome that it should display a tooltip
now and avoid any hovering timers. This is used by <video> tags to
display the volume percentage when it is changed.
Now instead of sending the position in which the user entered the
tooltip area, send just the text, and let the chrome figure out how to
display it.
In the case of Qt, wait for 600 milliseconds of no mouse movement, then
display it under the mouse cursor.
Unit tests on macOS deadlock because the WebContent process is waiting
for the next opportunity to render before a screenshot is taken. For
some reason unknown to myself, this opportunity never arrives. In
order to not deadlock, screenshot requests are now also processed
separately from rendering.
In the upcoming changes, we are going to switch macOS to using an
IOSurface for the backing store. This change will simplify the process
of sharing an IOSurface between processes because we already have the
MachPortServer running in the browser, and WebContent knows how to
locate the corresponding server.
This change ensures that if a screenshot is requested between teardown
of paintable tree and relayout, we will wait for layout to complete
before taking a screenshot.
This adds a motion preference to the browser UI similar to the existing
ones for color scheme and contrast.
Both AppKit UI and Qt UI has this new preference.
The auto value is currently the same as NoPreference, follow-ups can
address wiring that up to the actual preference for the OS.
